SRU - Mix It Up by Minuiko SRU - Mix It Up by Minuiko
Korra: "That was amazing! I didn't think we'd beat 'em."
Asami: "Well, you can't be afraid to mix it up sometimes."
Korra: "I gotta admit, I had you pegged wrong."
Commission depicting a 2v2 basketball game: Korra and Asami vs Mako and Bolin. This is a scene from =Destiny-Smasher's AtLA/LoK inspired modern day young adult fiction, 'What I Learned at SRU.' The full story can be read here on DA: [link] or here at [link]

I was actually planning to make an Avatar basketball team based on both TV series.  I enjoy the sports of football and basketball, but football requires too many people.

By the way, here's the roles of each position.  Although, certain players can fill multiple roles.…

As the primary theme of Avatar: The Last Airbender is balance (I'm not sure if this is the case for Korra), I also emphasize balance.  I'm trying to strike a balance between members from different nations and genders.  The only reason that there are eight members from The Last Airbender and only four from The Legend of Korra is simply the former has more episodes.

Note: The entire roster is tentative
Starting Lineup
PG Aang
SG Suki
SF Korra
PF Bolin
C Zuko
Bench (I haven't determined positions here)
Toph (sixth player)
Azula or Ty Lee (the former is probably better skill wise but is in questionable mental condition)

As you can see, this was pretty hastily made.  I want a balance struck between main characters, fan favorites (although perhaps not the cabbage merchant or the foaming at the mouth guy), and characters who would be good at basketball.  I have two more notes of interest here.

First, the team will be based in St. Louis.  That seems random, but there is a good reason for it.  Avatar creator Bryan Konietzko graduated from Roswell High School which is in Roswell, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.  The Atlanta Hawks NBA team had previously played in St. Louis where they won their only championship in 1958.  Plus, I lived in the St. Louis area as a little kid (1995-99 to be specific).  By the way, in case you're wondering, Michael Dante DiMartino was born and raised in Shelburn, Vermont.

The main place where this team will buck tradition though is in the uniforms.  Typically, a team will have a standard home and road uniform with a few alternates.  With the St. Louis Elementals (which is what I'm calling them), they have eight different uniforms (four home and four road) that they would alternate between in the cycle of Water-Earth-Fire-Air.  Each uniform would resemble the typical fashion of the respective nation, and each of the eight uniforms would be worn for exactly ten games*.  In the playoffs, the cycle would simply go on until the Elementals are eliminated.

That's all I have to say right now.  I'm going to need a helping hand from you.  Or at least someone else who knows a lot about both basketball and Avatar.  If it's at all possible, I'd like to know if there are any important numbers pertaining to these characters.

*There are 82 games in a season.  At the end of the season, whoever has done the best will get to pick which uniforms are used in both the final home and road games.

Unfortunately, SRU just hasn't been the right setting to explore that sort of stuff just because I'm juggling a lot of characters as it is...I've been trying to work in more scenes with them and there will be more by the end, but they're pretty all much centralized around SRU!Korra's character arc due to the necessity of the story.

But I'm expecting the subsequent seasons of the TV show will do some interesting things with this group.
The other crazy thing to keep in mind, too, is that there could yet be an addition to their 'Krew' in a future season, the way Toph or Zuko weren't members of the 'Gaang' until' later into the series.

Thanks! I've put a lot of hard work into this project, and a lot of talented artists like Minuiko have contributed to it. =)I love what she did with this one.

If you do end up giving the series a try, I hope you enjoy it.
